Hi, my life is rather hectic at present due to large amounts of coursework and… social gatherings. I am going to a party with my boyfriend and a couple of my school friends and am being picked up at 7.30. I’ts now 6.18, so I have time to laze about. After this, I’m going to go and put on the beautiful dress I bought this afternoon especially for tonight’s shenanigans.  If I find my camera, I’ll take it with me to the party and get some snaps and then you can see how the dress looks on. However, it’s only a Topshop dress so, for now, I can show you what it looks like thanks to the brilliance of the World Wide Web and Topshop.com…

I bought it in a 4 but it remains a little bit on the large side. I had to buy it in the smallest size possible because, due to my currently skeletal figure (it’s a long story), my breasts are completely non-existent. When wearing a bandeau dress, having curves in all the right places is a huge advantage. However, I am determined to make this work because it’s beautiful and it cost me £65. It looked fine when I tried it on in the changing rooms, and it will be utterly lovely when I wear it this evening. You can buy your own if you go to this URL: http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&categoryId=42389&parent_category_rn=42385&productId=1519596&langId=-1.

I don’t know which I like best: the military look or the nautical look. I think I’m leaning towards the latter; sailor-style simple stripes (great bit of alliteration there) are the way to go. Want to start working this look? Head to Urban Outfitters!

A nautical-stripe tee with a wide boat (see the pun there) neckline is casual and will blend effortlessly into any outfit. Dress this up or down- it’s up to you. £28.00.

This t-shirt is by Luella, so it’s obviously going to be divine. I love the way the navy trimmings contrast with the off-white fabric, and I think that the bow on the front with the stitch-detailing is lovely. £145.

We are in a recession, so I suppose it’s a good thing that, if you buy it, this boobtube won’t break the bank. Follow the lead of the UO fashion team and team this with a gold necklace and a black bodycon skirt. You should probably wear tights too- not just because it’s winter, but also because you don’t want to reveal too much flesh. £14.

And finally, because we all need accessories, I have to show you this necklace from Tatty Devine (more on them later, because I adore the brand and am planning to create a blog post about them in the near future). It’s so cute! I want one! £27.

All items featured are available from urbanoutfitters.co.uk.

…and I shall definitely be buying those gorgeous shorts in the third picture.

This leopard print beret from Accessorize is only £16. It gives a subtle nod to the animal-print trend, so it’s good for those who aren’t planning on sporting a leopard-print jacket anytime soon. I ordered mine yesterday.

At £83, I don’t think I’m going to be buying this unless it hits the sale but, OH MY GOD, I love it! I am a huge fan of cosmic prints. This t-shirt dress is from Urban Outfitters, designed by Australian brand Something Else. Well, the print certainly is something else…

Yes, I know that they are from the Spring/Summer collection, but these ‘John’ shorts from Luella are still on my wishlist. They’re reduced to £87.50 now. I could ask for them for Christmas, I suppose, but unfortunately they no longer have my size in stock… Actually, I just checked the website and they don’t even stock my size at all! Boo. Oh well. If you can snap these lovelies up, then you should.

These fingerless mittens from Lowie are available from Labour of Love for £41. I discovered Lowie in December 2008 at the Clothes Show Live. The brand- which I’d never heard of before- had a stall there and there was a lovely lady behind the till. I picked up a quaint little knitted snood, with red and white stripes, which had no price on. The woman sold it to me for £5. There was a Lowie label and tag attached to the snood, though, including a web address. I went on their website (www.ilovelowie.com) to discover that Lowie products are generally much more than £5! So I was lucky. I shall look out for Lowie when I go to the Clothes Show this year (which is just over a week away, hurray).

I am a Cath Kidston devotee. I have 4 bags, 2 make-up bags, 2 duvet covers, a quilt, 4 pillowcases, 2 wallets, a suitcase, a pocket mirror and a plethora of other things from the brand. I just love it. I love the prints and the quality of the items. The hankies- like this bird print one for £6- are a nice thing to tie around the handle of an otherwise boring handbag.

I used to love watching Popworld on Channel 4 at the weekends. Alexa Chung’s style plus Alex Zane’s sense of humour  was, in my eyes, a perfect combination. Alas, the series ended in 2007 , but Alexa’s style continues to inspire me.

Alexa and Alex back in the Popworld days

Chung epitomises British style, regularly donning Luella dresses (she is a huge Luella fan who has recently been urging her followers on Twitter to “Save Luella” after hearing the news of the designer’s recent financial crisis) and Burberry trenches and carrying Mulberry bags. Her outfits are always wonderful and she pulls them off effortlessly. She knows what suits her and sticks to it. Also, she knows how to pull off a perfect balance of designer, high street and vintage in her outfits. I love that.

Life isn’t fair. Alexa has it all: lovely clothes, tiny legs and a gorgeous boyfriend.

Here are a few of my favourite Alexa looks:

I’m not very good at introductions, so excuse me if this is bad or boring (or both). Well, I’m from England and I’m 16. Like most girls my age, I have lots of love for fashion and music and probably not enough love for doing my homework. Please don’t think that I’m a rebel or a chav because I’m not- it’s just that I’d much rather be in Topshop than in a classroom.

I don’t want to bore you with much more information about myself because I’m not a particularly interesting person.  But after Googling “what to write in your first blog post”, and learning that you should tell people about yourself, I suppose I should describe myself a bit more. I live in a little village in North Yorkshire, which has many more drawbacks than it has advantages. One of the main drawbacks is that none of my friends from school live nearby, and the bus service here is terrible, so it’s hard for me to have a hectic social life while I’m living here. However, part of me likes living in t’Yorkshire Dales because it’s rather peaceful (apart from in the summer when it becomes a tourist-infested hellhole) and you can take the dog for a walk on your own at 11pm and you’re unlikely to get stabbed or abducted. You feel safe here.

Right, enough about me, onto the blog. This blog is called Lovely because I hope to fill it with lovely things and also because I overuse the word ‘lovely’. Unfortunately the URL isn’t lovely.wordpress.com because some munter got to that one before me. So it’s howlovelymydear.wordress.com instead. Anyway, Lovely is hopefully going to be a fashion blog. Groan if you wish. I hope it won’t be too generic and that I can offer my always-witty-and-spot-on opinions. Please note that I am not a huge ‘fashionista’. I can’t afford designer clothes, so I lust after them instead. I do not even have a weekend job to fund my fashion habit, so I live off the Bank of Mum and Dad. Most of my clothes come from charity shops, vintage shops or from the high street. However, I don’t think that this makes me less ‘stylish’. It’s not about where your clothes are from- it’s about what they look like and how you wear them. It would also be a good idea for you to note that I, at times, have a bit of an eccentric taste. I like the ‘bad taste’ thing; mixing patterns and colours that don’t really go together excites me. If you’re looking for a fashion blog featuring perfectly co-ordinated and polished outfits, then you should just leave.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy my blog! I’ll try to keep updating. Please feel free to comment and ask any questions.

P.S. Dear the owner of lovely.wordpress.com, I don’t really think you’re a munter. I expect you’re a, er, lovely person.
